Atlanta wins National HRC Dinner of the Year Award

Atlanta, GA – March 25, 2008 – And the award goes to Atlanta! During HRC’s Annual Equality Convention, Atlanta’s HRC Dinner Committee received the award for Best Dinner, for its 2007 gala.

Across the country, HRC volunteers in dozens of cities organize annual gala dinners to raise awareness and support for gay rights and to provide an entertainment venue that celebrates GLBT accomplishments and triumphs. The black-tie event draws hundreds from the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, as well as straight allies to Atlanta to see world-renowned speakers and entertainers, bid on items in a silent auction and raise money for the vital work done by HRC.

The Best Dinner award recognizes the city with the best overall dinner fundraising, attendance, and program. “To come out on top as a winner is a true testament to all the hard work that our volunteers put into the dinner each year”, said both Jason Lowery, Dinner Co-Chair for 2007 and 2008 and Lynn Sheppod, Dinner Co-Chair for 2006 and 2007.

In 2007, Atlanta hosted its 20th Annual HRC Dinner and Silent Auction with a star-studded program that included comedian, Kate Clinton; the first American wounded in Iraq and gay former soldier, Eric Alva; world renowned singer and entertainer, Amber; and HRC President, Joe Solmonese. With over 1100 guests and a record setting Silent Auction success, Atlanta truly earned top dinner accolades.

This year, Atlanta will celebrate its 21st Dinner and Silent Auction, themed VIVA 08, The Odds Are in Our Favor. The award winning Dinner Committee promises that this year’s dinner will be even bigger and better, with more surprises, entertainment, and fabulous items for in its silent auction. The dinner will take place at the Atlanta Hyatt Regency on May 3rd. Tickets are on sale at http://www.atlantahrcdinner.org.
